Silly Sydney airport. To connect to an international flight you have to leave the domestic airport. That means getting on a shuttle on the tarmac, leaving the airport, getting on a freeway, then surface streets, to the other airport, get dropped off at the regular passenger unloading curb, do security again, then you're able to get to the plane. What makes it stupid? Domestic and International flights use the same runway and your bags stay on the tarmac. I had 40 minutes to do that. While trying to clear security my bag was held up because of a tube of toothpaste (wasn't the traditional tube shape they're use to seeing). Finally get my bag (no toothpaste) hear "Final call for Delta ...." and then see a "15 minutes to gates 60-80" sign which is where my Delta flight is. While trying to run for it a kid jumps out in front of me and I trip, slide and fall in the airport. I figured nothing's bleeding or broken, only one flight a day home, gotta get up and run for it. Finally get to the gate, last person on, everyone looking at me since I'm in the front. Sweating, I sit down, buckle up and the captain comes over the speakers..... "We're going to be delayed 30-40 minutes so we can get aboard some 20 remaining passenger suitcases". F me. 1 suitcase made the flight, 1 is left in Sydney.

Looking at the picture below really puts things into perspective all the traveling I was able to do, all the cultures I was able to experience. It's impossible to experience all those places and not be a little different after. Truly a perfect way to celebrate my 40th birthday.
Final thoughts on the boat, the itinerary and more... to follow shortly. Talk to you again once back in San Diego.
